Failed runs can still lead to artifact progress

A failed voyage does not necessarily mean starting the next one with nothing new. An April preview of Hull Rupture reports that defeats unlocked artifacts that became available in later runs. The September demo update separately confirms that returning players keep access to previously available artifacts, while newly introduced ones remain locked.

Those are two different parts of progression: unlocking an item for future runs, and having access to an item in the particular run you are playing. Neither source provides a complete current checklist for every artifact.

What the early-demo experience establishes

In The Wand Report's April Hull Rupture preview, the writer did not reach the campaign's final objective despite repeated attempts. Their player experience was that each defeat awarded new artifacts, which gradually entered later runs and added different modifiers.

That demonstrates a progression route in the early preview build: play a run, reach its outcome, and gain access to additional artifacts for subsequent attempts. It does not establish that the current demo awards a particular named artifact after a fixed number of defeats.

Use the report to understand why another attempt may offer new possibilities, rather than treating it as a reason to deliberately lose for a guaranteed reward. Exact unlock requirements still need to come from the artifact or progression information presented by the version you are playing.

Check the September carryover rule

The September 14 demo update explicitly addresses players returning from the previous demo. Previously available artifacts are already unlocked for those players, alongside the no-combat mode and a completed tutorial state.

However, the new artifacts remain locked. Updating an existing demo history therefore does not mean every artifact added in the update should be available immediately.

This distinction helps when comparing your game with an older player's screenshots or reports. An artifact they already had may belong to the earlier pool, while a new addition has its own progression. The announcement does not list every new requirement, so there is no supported basis for assigning all of them the same defeat count or completion condition.

Keep artifacts and event modifiers distinct

Artifacts and module modifiers both affect a run, but their appearances in a guide do not necessarily describe the same unlock system. The exploration devlog describes modifiers installed in individual modules, obtained through shops or narrative events. A story-event reward is not automatically evidence that a permanent artifact has been unlocked.

The September update also reworked some artifact and modifier effects to interact with turrets and weakened some unit-focused strategies. An older report about what an artifact does should therefore retain its original version context, even when the artifact itself remains available.

For the current demo changes, consult the official Hull Rupture developer announcements. They confirm the carryover distinction without claiming that all newly added artifacts unlock at once.

FAQ

Must I beat the demo before any artifact can unlock?

The April preview reports artifact unlocks after unsuccessful runs, so winning was not the only progression route in that early build. It does not supply a complete current unlock table.

Why are some artifacts still locked after the September update?

The developers say previously available artifacts carry over for returning demo players, but the update's new artifacts remain locked.

Does receiving a module modifier unlock an artifact permanently?

The available sources describe module modifiers and artifact unlocks separately. A modifier obtained during an event does not, by itself, establish a permanent artifact unlock.
